Sauvache was established in 2022 and is run by nature farmer Karsten Reiniers in a beautiful location overlooking the mountains of Auvergne, where he lives with his wife Myrna. At Sauvache, we focus on the natural system and farm with
nature. That means we leave nature to manage itself as much as possible.
Letting nature lead is the main principle of our approach. We restore natural processes such as grazing and the cycle of life and death. That way, we make naturally functioning ecosystems flourish. We also link as many
(of our) areas as possible. This gives plants and animals much more space, which is good for genetically healthy populations, among other things.
New nature
Sauvache is not only supporting Europe’s spectacular wilderness. We also encourage the creation of a wilderness economy (without overrunning nature). After all, the new nature attracts tourists who provide local income.
Nature cottages
In the new nature developing at Sauvache, we are currently working hard on the first gîte naturel (nature cottage). This former water mill is completely secluded on more than 10 hectares that you will share during your stay with animals like otters and wild cats.
Discover nature
We also provide field excursions. These are mainly about wandering, enjoying and discovering. We dive into the world of grazers and explore their different influences on the landscape. For instance, they suppress dominant plants, giving many other species more opportunity. They also help spread seeds and their dung is a source of food for all kinds of insects.
Sauvache’s dynamic nature – where nature is allowed to take its course as much as possible – is exciting and offers plenty of opportunities for fun and educational activities. Here, everyone can become familiar with rugged nature and
get an insight into how smart nature works as a system.
